Helen Keller said, “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”
Many times in the past few years I have thought to myself, “What is my life missing?”
I moved across the country after college for what I assumed was a dream job and I am grateful for what I have, but I am also looking for where the grass is greener. I look back and think, “How did I end up here?”
I “changed my pocket” by paying off all my debt last year, but that wasn’t what was missing. I viewed getting out of debt as the end of a journey instead of just a single stage. After the initial feeling of freedom, life went back to normal.
My mother says that I have “always needed a challenge.” When I was in middle school I couldn’t wait for high school. By the time I was there, I wanted to be in college. Then I wanted to have graduated from there too, and been off in the working world.
I push myself very hard and I’m rarely completely satisfied with where I am at in life. I’m not a perfectionist. I’m simply competitive with myself.
What I have really wanted my whole life, is to see what else is out there.
- The life of a vagabond, exploring countries for long periods at a time excites me.
- Being location independent with the freedom of working from anywhere is my dream.
- Creating a business where I decide what I spend my time on is what I want.
I am ready for the next chapter of my life and for this one to end.
Two months from today I will be getting married. My fiancé and I are already talking about what we want to do and where we want to go after we officially start our lives together.
While she is transitioning into becoming a photographer, I want to become a digital nomad.
I want to visit every country in the world like Chris Guillebeau.
I want to go on an instant adventure like Tyler Tervooreen.
I want to travel the world for $418 like Steve Kamb.
The planning for my life adventure starts today. I’m not sure yet where I’m headed, but just knowing that I’m going soon made me jump out of bed right when my alarm went off. (If you know me well, that NEVER happens, especially on a Monday.)
I’ll be using David Damron’s Destination X: Your Guide to Accomplishing Anything to really figure out what I want to do and then follow through with completing it.
Is your life an adventure? Or is it in need of some more excitement?

Thanks for the mention.
I think sitting down and coming up with a plan is monumental to your success. After i wrote my Pillar Declaration back in 2009, I changed everything I did because I had a plan.
Good luck…I will be here for the ride…

Writing down the plan is one way I’m going about it, such as writing this point. To make it more realistic and concrete.
I am also working to:
- Tell Others My Plans
- Minimize My Stuff Even More
- Talking Like It Will Happen
I’ve got to weigh in on the side of life being an adventure all the time. Plus, I’m getting married in September - that’s a HUGE adventure right there!
Congrats on the upcoming wedding Danny! I think adventure is the right word.
I feel you, Caleb. I frequently tap into stories from my life experience as writing fodder for my blog. . . time in the Army, being a lawyer, operating a small business. But I’ve realized recently that I’m not creating any NEW stories. All I do is sit in front of this damned computer and write, write, write. Time for some adventure indeed!
Exactly Vic. Instead of looking back and thinking, “Man, I really miss college. Those were the best years of my life.” I want to look forward and say, “The next few years are going to be better than any I’ve already lived.”
See you in Portland at WDS next weekend. That will be an adventure!
Getting married is quite the adventure. Wait till your third child is born and you look at them wondering how much different they will be than their siblings. And what they will be like 18 years from now. That’s one way to have an adventure in Podunk,WA. I wish you luck!
I agree that both marriage and children are quite the adventure. I’m reminded of that fact every time I get to be around my niece and nephew.
Before children I am looking for adventure in the more traditional, Indiana Jones sense of the word!
I echo your same goals. Be location independent and work on project I love. I’d love to spend three months in a country cause I can. That’s what I’m working towards as well.
Cause my life needs more excitement and freedom too.
And I’m getting married in October (tentative date). Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
Congrats to you too Benny. Love the work your doing on your site and the new(er) look you got there now.
Thanks Caleb. Just making sure I work on the blog and my goals every day in some way. It’s like I could have written that exact post about what I want for the next chapter in life. So I can really relate. You’ve got a good thing going on here and just from reading about you, you’re determined to make it happen.
Plus you got a shout out from Corbett on his last webinar. That was cool.
Hey Caleb,
Great post dude. Congrats by the way on getting married, that’s aweosme!
I love doing just random things, or last minute stuff. Like just hanging out with a friend, bored. Whatcha wanna do? I don’t know, let’s go to Vegas real quick haha! Love that randomness.
Looking forward to your future journey and I’m gonna take a look at David’s site you linked to.
Thanks Eric. I want my life now to have the randomness and spontaneity that it did when I was younger. Here’s to more of that!
Wow Caleb - congrats on the upcoming marriage! It’s awesome that your fiancee feels similarly to you in terms of adventure and shifting your work. You’re clearly on an action-packed path towards what you want to be doing, and from seeing your dedicated work here, seems to me like you’re going to be successful.
Keep charging and make those adventures come true!
Thanks Vivek! I’ve definitely got some things in the works that will allow me to go on this adventure. Can’t wait to share them when they’re ready.
